Thursday Night at the Springs Preserve will be a time to enjoy a concert and food at the Springs Preserve Café by Wolfgang Puck. This after-hours event will feature seasonal appetizers, signature drinks and live music. Every Thursday night from 6 p.m. to 9 p. m. you will be able to enjoy a “new Friday”.
• Artichokes & Arias in April
• Mozart & Mojitos in May
• Jazz & Juleps in June
The Springs Preserve Café by Wolfgang Puck is a wonderful venue with indoor and outdoor dining. The wraparound balcony provides a great view of the Preserve.

The Café is one Wolfgang Puck’s Gourmet Express eateries. Puck uses local farmers and growers. Wolfgang’s Eating, Loving and Living program assures the use of ”fresh, quality produce, including beef, chicken and fish raised in good conscience with minimal hormones, pesticides or antibiotics.”

After relaxing to the live music and having a few appetizers you are welcome to stroll through the Preserve’s gardens or trails at no additional expense. The rest of the facility will be open, however, an admission will be charged.

I’m a Seattle native with a definite bias for the home team. The Cubbies won 4-2 and it really doesn’t mean much, the Mariners are beating the Texas Rangers 5-2 in the top of the 9th as I write this post.
Now a final score in the Mariners home opener!
It was just great to get out to the ballpark and get that feeling that comes with the opening of the baseball season. There was a wonderful woman who sat in front of my friends and I with a young son, maybe two, he will surely become a great baseball fan. The smell of hotdogs was there but to be honest the service at the stadium was not that great. Slim and none were the chances of getting a dog in a timely manner. But, a wonderful day was had by all and the Cubs won which pleased most of the fans in attendance.

The Stevens Baseball Group bought the 25-year-old franchise from Mandalay Baseball Properties in a deal approved last week and will now direct the future of the franchise. There has been talk about a new name to be selected by the community of Las Vegas. The current name came in 2000 when the name went from the Stars to the 51s. Maybe it is time to lose the Area 51 connection.

There have been changes including the new left field party deck and the new scoreboard.

The Dodgers will surely ask for more since their lease expires after this year. There is some talk of a domed stadium emerging with community support. Just a cover of sorts would be nice, this is a good venue and a dome sounds extreme. How about some cover and misters? They have misters in Arizona but they are sorely missing in Las Vegas.
Love going to these games. My friend is vocal “Heh batter…..Heh Batter” this is what baseball is about. Enjoy the season my friends.

There are four ponds at Floyd Lamb Park and they are fed by a combination of wells and artesian wells. The park used to be operated by the State, however, it was handed over to the City of Las Vegas in July of 2007. Only the largest uppermost pond is stocked with game fish. Fishing season is all year long and the limit on your catch is three game fish. You will need a Nevada fishing license.

The Pond is stocked weekly with rainbow trout from November until March, and with channel catfish at least monthly from April through October. The Pond has produced some trophy sized fish. A 20 pound channel catfish that measured 28.5 inches was caught in 1996.
They say that small spinners, still baits such as salmon eggs, and fly fishing all seem to work for the rainbow trout.

Drove to Mt. Charleston on Saturday and yes there is snow. I didn’t go to the ski slopes, instead just drove up to the Mr Charleston Lodge for lunch. Breakfast would have been nice but you need to be there before 11:30 a. m. to be served. After lunch I took a few pictures of the sledding area just above the lodge.

Snows piling up!

Kids are so tough.

This is another side of Vegas that many of us forget about. Just as well it would get too crowded.

Hiking programs by the Red Rock Canyon Interpretive Association are many and varied, ranging from the easy walk to the strenuous climb. A great way to get the kids some exercise is by enrolling them in the junior programs. The age group is 5-12 years old and they can learn everything they wanted to know about our mammals and reptiles.

You’ll need to register in advance by the 23rd of the previous month. You can click here to get to the Hikes/Programs page presented by the Friends of Red Rock Canyon.

Below is the February Calendar of Hikes and Programs.

May not be warm enough to swim outside but some of the community centers have great indoor facilities.

Wesley is a good friend who is into organic golf, not sure what that is, but it works for him. I recall only one time that I was able to put up better numbers than Wes and we’ve played a number of rounds during the last year. Couldn’t ask for a better friend! I just got these photos so they are somewhat dated as you can note by the lack of warm weather gear.

This just might be the time of year to enjoy Lake Las Vegas. A breakfast at the Ritz-Carlton Lake Las Vegas Resort is a great way to start the day. The Medici Cafe and Terrace is a great place for breakfast with the Florentine Gardens as a wonderful backdrop. Breakfast is served from 6:30 am untill 11:00 am and the views are sure to please.
